The DCS music teachers maintain an online calendar.  While they do their best to keep the dates as current as possible, please contact them directly if you have any questions about dates. 

You may also obtain a printed yearly music calendar from your music teacher.


Orchestra Uniform Information

If you would like to purchase a white, wing collar tuxedo shirt, please send in $12.75 to Ms. Lemke in the form of cash, check or money order made payable to the Delaware Music Boosters. Our uniform volunteers will take measurements for a proper fit.

The Rutherford B. Hayes High School offers many opportunities for students to participate in music.  There are three main areas of the program: orchestra, choir, and band.

  • Hayes Orchestra 
    • Orchestra - The Hayes Orchestra is comprised of strings, winds, and percussion.  This is a full credit course offered during the school day and is open to all students who were in the DCS Strings Program the prior year.  New students  should contact the director, Ms. Stacy Lemke (stacy_lemke@dcs.k12.oh.us) to learn how to audition for orchestra.  New brass, woodwind, and percussion players must obtain the permission of Ms. Lemke before registering.  The orchestra participates in regularly scheduled concerts and in the OMEA Adjudicated Events.  Eligible Students: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades
    • Hayes Players - The Hayes Players is a select string chamber orchestra that meets during the school day.  The Players tour and play regular events outside of the school day, including community events and the OMEA Adjudicated Events.    Eligible Students: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades  By Audition Only
  • Hayes Choir
    • Concert Choir - The Concert Choir is a one credit women's group that sings during regularly scheduled concerts.  No audition is required to be a member of this group.  Fee: $20 for uniform shirt -Eligible Students: 9th Grade-12th Grade 
    • Ensemble - The Ensemble is a one credit men's group that sings during regularly scheduled concerts.  No audition is required to be a member of this group.  Fee: $20 for uniform shirt -Eligible Students: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades
    • Chorale - The Chorale is a one credit advanced women's group that sings for all regularly scheduled concerts and in the OMEA Adjudicated Events.  Eligible Students: 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades BY AUDITION ONLY
    • Symphonic Choir - The Symphonic Choir is a one credit mixed choir, performs advanced choral literature.  They sing for all regularly scheduled concerts and in the OMEA Adjudicated Events.  Eligible Students: 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades BY AUDITION ONLY
    • Hayes Singers - The Hayes Singers is a one credit mixed select show choir that performs at school concerts and community events.  Members must be members of Symphonic Choir.  Eligible Students: 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades BY AUDITION ONLY
  • Hayes Band
    • Marching/Concert Band - The Marching/Concert Band is a one credit ensemble that includes all aspects of marching and concert performance.  There will be after school rehearsals during marching band season, including band camp.  The band performs at regularly scheduled concerts, football games, competitions, parades, the OMEA Adjudicated Events, and a variety of other events.  Eligible Students: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades Contact Mr. Hoch (christopher_hoch@dcs.k12.oh.us) for approval if new

  • Additional Music Course Offerings
    • Music History and Appreciation - The purpose of this semester course is to provide students with an introductory understanding of the elements of music.  Eligible Students: 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades
    • Music Harmony and Theory - This course offers a practical treatment of music theory.  Ear-training, sight-singing, and written notation will be the areas of concentration.
